Welcome to First Grade!

meet your first grade team

In the first grade we focus on building a strong sense of community with our students and parents by building relationships that are based on trust, partnership, and open communication. In our classrooms emphasize respect, innovation, and collaboration to help students reach their full potential and foster a love for learning. We view parents and guardians as the child's first true teacher and welcome you to bring your experiences and areas of expertise into the learning community.

Meet Ms. Bradford

Greetings families! My name is Britt Bradford and I am so excited to be a part of the High Peaks learning community as a first grade teacher! This will be my sixth year teaching at the elementary level; I love it more each year! This year is going to be full of learning and new adventures and I feel privileged to have the opportunity to work with your child.

I became interested in public education during my undergraduate studies and began to focus on access to education and policy through an anthropological lens. I earned my degree in Anthropology from the University of Tennessee, and I completed my postgraduate studies in Education at Lincoln Memorial University.

Outside of the classroom I find joy in mountain biking, painting, playing the mandolin, reading, and spending time with my family. I love to explore new places and learn from different cultures, and as a point try to include a world view in my classroom. Overall, I look forward to meeting you and for the adventure that awaits us in first grade this year!

Meet Mrs. Skodras

Hello, hello! My name is Emily Skodras and I am thrilled to be apart of the High Peaks first grade team! This coming year will be my fifth year teaching and fifth year at High Peaks Elementary.

I was born in Maui, Hawaii and visit often to spend time with family and friends who are still on the island. In addition to Maui, I am lucky to be able to call Boulder home. I was able to attend BVSD for a fabulous education whilst attending Eisenhower Elementary, Southern Hills Middle School and Fairview. I received my bachelors of arts and Elementary Licensure from CU Boulder and decided to head right back to the CU campus complete my Masters of Arts in K-12 Literacy.

This summer, I was able to marry my high school sweetheart with our beagle Lou-Lou as the witness! I am in the process of changing my last name, so you might see me as either Ms. Chatburn or Mrs. Skodras!

When I'm not in the classroom I enjoy hiking, baking, painting, snowboarding, perusing favorite clothing stores and spending time with my friends and family. Being a first grade teacher here at High Peaks is truly my dream job and I feel so grateful to give back to the community that made me who I am today!
