Classroom behavior

School-wide paws program

Individual students can earn PAWS cards and stickers for demonstrating one of the following character traits:
  • Prepared
  • Act Respectfully
  • Work Hard
  • Safety
When individual students earn PAWS cards, they receive a sticker to keep for that day and put their card in a jar in the front office. On Fridays, Mrs. Tynecki will draw cards from the whole school and invite the students selected to come to her office to enjoy a celebration reward.

Class paw

Classes can earn larger PAWS cards by demonstrating as a group one of the character traits listed above.

Gem jar

Each class has a jar that individual students and the whole class can earn gems for showing PAWS pride or reaching other objectives in the classroom. Once the gem jar is full, the class earns a special celebration. The students make recommendations for what kind of celebration they would like to have in class and then vote on their favorite way to celebrate their hard work.

Student redirection

LANGUAGE USED:
When students are solving problems in the classroom environment, we like the students to advocate for themselves and we provide support for students to express their concerns with one another. The suggested language for solving problems with peers in the classroom is as follows:
"I feel _______ when you_______. I want you to________."

THINK SHEET:

When a student would benefit from a refocus or time to process how to make the day go better, they are invited to move away from the group. If a student needs this support more frequently, they may be asked to complete a Think Sheet. The Think Sheet is a tool to help a student process their behavior and how it affects the group. This form is sent home to be signed by parents and returned to school the following day.

OFFICE REFERRAL: FOR SAFETY OR REPEATED CONCERNS

To aid in the success of all students, toys are not allowed at school. Thank you for helping us succeed this goal!
